Barcelona stars celebrate on stage with Shakira

Colombian pop-star Shakira is joined on stage by boyfriend Gerard Pique, and other members of Barcelona’s football team, celebrating their Champions League success.

Barcelona players Gerard Pique, Xavi, David Villa, Pedro, Bojan Krkic and Sergi Busquets joined Shakira on stage for an impromptu dance during the Colombian’s show at the Lluis Campanys Olympic Stadium in the Spanish city.

Shakira, the girlfriend of centre-back Pique and famous for hits such as ‘Hips Don’t Lie’, treated the crowd to a trademark midriff-wriggling performance as her boyfriend and his team-mates linked together and attempted to emulate the singer’s famed moves.

The footballers were continuing their celebrations after victory over Manchester United in the Champions League final at Wembley on Saturday. Earlier the squad had paraded the trophy to thousands of jubilant fans who took to the streets of the Catalan capital for an open-top bus parade.

Abdul sad for sacked Cole

Paula Abdul has spoken of her sadness after her The X Factor co-star Cheryl Cole was dropped from the U.S. TV show.

Abdul and Cole had signed up to sit on the panel of the new American version of the talent contest along with music mogul Antonio ‘L.A.’ Reid and creator Simon Cowell.

Auditions began in Los Angeles earlier this month, but Cole was sacked to be replaced by Nicole Scherzinger, according to reports.

Abdul, who previously worked with Cowell on American Idol, reveals she was travelling when the news broke, and admits she will be sad to see Cole go.

She tells reporters during a promotional trip to Singapore, “This is all news to me. This apparently has captured the news while I was travelling so I’m just finding out things as you are. I don’t know whether this is true. You probably know more than I do.

“All I can tell you is that she is lovely, and I was really excited about the relationship and friendship we were forging. Regardless (of what happens), I’m looking forward to continuing that. She’s lovely.”

Duran Duran axe tour as Le Bon gets throat treatment

Pop stars Duran Duran have scrapped their remaining U.K. tour dates so frontman Simon Le Bon can undergo treatment for a throat infection.

The 1980s hitmakers were forced to axe the opening two shows of their trek earlier this month when Le Bon was struck down with the illness.

But they have now had to cancel the rest of their U.K. concert plans, including gigs in Manchester and Sheffield, as the singer struggles to overcome his ailment.

He is being treated for the throat problems and has been told by doctors to rest his voice for “about another week”, before Duran Duran head to Germany for the next leg of their European tour.

In a statement posted on the band’s website, Le Bon writes, “I know how difficult this has been for all of the fans, as we’ve been postponing shows with very little notice, in the hope each day that the improvement would have been significant enough for me to sing again without risking any long-term damage.

“I am now focussing on getting back for Berlin – which is on June 8th.”

Minogue denies love split rumours

Aussie singer Dannii Minogue has dismissed speculation she’s split from boyfriend Kris Smith, insisting she’s “committed” to their relationship.

Reports emerged over the weekend claiming Minogue and Smith, who became parents to son Ethan last July, had decided to part ways.

Minogue recently returned to her native Australia after pulling out of her judging role on The X Factor reality show, and she’s spoken out to tell fans she’s “happy” to be home in Melbourne with her family.

In a statement obtained by Australia’s Herald Sun newspaper, the pair says, “Thanks for your concern. We’re happy to be back at home in Melbourne together as a family.

“We are committed to our relationship and Ethan as always.”

Jolie will tone down sexiness for Cleopatra

Angelina Jolie is determined to stun viewers with her portrayal of Cleopatra in an upcoming movie because it shatters the Egyptian pharaoh’s reputation as a man-eating sex symbol.

Jolie will play the legendary leader in David Fincher’s re-telling of the famous story, which is set for release in 2013 on the 50th anniversary of the classic original movie starring Elizabeth Taylor.

And the Tomb Raider actress is adamant her version of the raven-haired queen will be far less glamorous than Taylor’s infamous portrayal.

Jolie tells Stella magazine, “She has been very misunderstood. I thought it was all about the glamour, but then I read about her and she was a very strong mother, she spoke five languages and she was a leader.

“My performance will never be as lovely as Elizabeth’s. We are trying to get into a different truth about her as a pharaoh in history and not a sex symbol, because she really wasn’t. Even this idea of her having many lovers – it was possible that it was only two. She is very interesting, but she wasn’t a great beauty.”

Hendricks feared losing Mad Men job

Mad Men star Christina Hendricks feared for her job on the hit show as TV bosses feuded over finances earlier this year, insisting the dispute left her “scared” for her acting future.

The fifth season of the drama, in which Hendricks stars alongside Jon Hamm and January Jones, was due to begin shooting in the spring ahead of a summer U.S. TV debut.

But executives at network AMC and the Lionsgate studio which makes the series threw the show into jeopardy when they failed to reach a renewal agreement over costs, forcing producers to push the next series back until 2012.

At the height of negotiations, bosses suggested downsizing the cast – news which left Hendricks “scared” for her job security.

She tells The Hollywood Reporter, “I was reading all that information along with the general public. A couple (of) people have already been cut out of the show, and that was very emotional for me. So hearing that – it’s not like it can’t happen because it’s happened before. It scared me. Every single person is such a contributor and… people just love these characters.”

But Hendricks admits she can understand why the option to fire castmembers was brought up.

She says, “It does feel disrespectful, but I also know they are trying to do their job and save money, and there is this whole power-play thing, and it all works itself out.”

The two parties ended months of discussions in March, when they reached a deal to bring the hit show back for two more seasons.

Burke tipped for West End Bodyguard role

Singer Alexandra Burke has reportedly been lined up to take on Whitney Houston’s role in The Bodyguard in a West End stage adaption of the hit 1992 movie.

Houston starred as pop singer Rachel Marron in the film, with Kevin Costner appearing as a former Secret Service agent hired to protect her.

Theatre bosses are keen to turn the film into a London stage show next year to coincide with the Olympics in the capital.

Burke is the top choice to tackle Houston’s role, despite being busy at work on her second album, according to The Sun.

A source tells the publication, “Alexandra is torn – the show would be an amazing gig and especially in London while the Olympics are on and it’s in the spotlight. But she also has her second album to think about.”

Prince’s duet with Blige

Pop superstar Prince thrilled fans in Los Angeles on Saturday night by performing with Mary J. Blige during his show.

The Purple Rain hitmaker sang his hits at The Forum venue and midway through his set he invited Blige, his warm-up act, to team up with him for a rendition of Nothing Compares 2 U, a track he wrote in the 1980s and which was later made famous by Sinead O’Connor.

And the duet went down well with the crowd, which included actor Russell Crowe.

In a series of posts on his Twitter.com page on Sunday, he writes, “Went to see Prince at The Forum in LA last night… I did go crazy, I did get down… duet with MaryJBlige on Nothing compares 2 U …sublime.”

Taking to her own page on the microblogging site, Blige was full of praise for the superstar, gushing, “The prince concert was INSANE!!! INCREDIBLE!!! AMAZING!!! I’ve never seen any performance like it!!! The Prince Concert is a must see!!! Please go see!!!”

Green baffled by fascination with French women

Actress Eva Green can’t understand why British men are “obsessed” with French women, insisting she’s baffled by the myth that girls from her homeland are sophisticated and sexy.

The former Bond girl hails from the cosmopolitan city of Paris and is often cast in dark and seductive roles thanks to her heritage.

But Green admits she is confused by the stereotypical image of French women, because she knows plenty who are unattractive “slobs”.

She tells Weekend magazine, “People see me as this sexy French girl who drinks and smokes, which amuses me.

“British men seem obsessed with French women. They build up the idea of us French girls having some magic extra sex appeal so much, they lose their head. It’s such a cliche to think all French girls are elegant and sexy. Some are utter slobs.

“As for the sexual self-confidence that men seem to think we have, well, that’s a myth, too. I’ve done a lot of screen nudity but I could never bear to watch myself in any sex scene – or any scenes to be honest.”
