In February 2007, the hair that Britney Spears shaved off was put up for sale on eBay for one million dollars. The salon in Tarzana, California, also included 'the Omega clipper used to cut it all off and even the can of Red Bull she was drinking at the time'. But the offer was removed after eBay was inundated with fake Britney hair offerings.

A lock of author Charles Dickens' hair was sold for £3,120 in 2005. The hair was auctioned with a note of authentication from his sister-in-law and housekeeper Georgina Hogarth. which read: 'I certify this Lock of Hair to be that of my Brother-in-law Charles Dickens.'
