Only @ CF 2011: Shimokawa Mikuni & Ceui, LIVE & LOUD!

Every year, Comic Fiesta aims to up the ante in terms of what we can offer our visitors. This time we’re pulling out all the stops.

Comic Fiesta is proud to present Shimokawa Mikuni and Ceui, right here in Malaysia on the first day of CF 2011, 17th of December 2011!

Making her first appearances in showbiz as a member of the idol group Checkicco, Shimokawa Mikuni has since rocked the world of J-pop with the opening and ending themes of various anime series. She is most famous for her work on the opening and ending themes of Full Metal Panic!

In 2007, she made her first Asian tour through numerous cities like Taiwan, Beijing, Macao, Hong Kong, Seoul and Singapore, giving rise to a pan-Asian fan base. Earlier this year, she began working with the Chinese search engine Baidu, and became the first Japanese artist to officially register with the site. The site now hosts an official message board for her, where replies are posted by Shimokawa herself!

Inspired by the Portuguese word for “Star”, Ceui is a prominent artist in the Japanese AniSong (portmanteau for “Anime Song”) circuit herself. This fantasy-filled singer-songwriter has performed the themes for Girl Who Leapt through Space, Legend of the Legendary Heroes, Shattered Angels, Sola and more.

Her concert in Hong Kong last October had seen the appearance of tens of thousands of fans. Upon starting her own message boards in earlier the same month, the number of subscribers have already reached above 65, 000!

This December 17, both of these talented artists will make their appearance at Comic Fiesta 2011 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Center. The attendees of the country’s largest fan-made event will get to see them in person for the first time in Malaysia!

Yes, you read that right: to see both Shimokawa Mikuni and Ceui in person, all you have to do is attend CF 2011!

There will be no extra charge for this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. December 17, 2011.

COMIC FIESTA IS BACK, BIGGER AND BETTER THAN EVER!

Animation, Comics and Games (ACG) fans, rejoice! Comic Fiesta, Malaysia’s longest-running ACG convention will be making a return for its tenth iteration, this time on the 17th and 18th of December at the KLCC Convention Centre. Since its humble beginnings in 2002, the event has been instrumental in providing a space for enthusiasts to share their passions with like-minded individuals.

Spurred on by the record-breaking attendance of approximately 11,000 people last year, Comic Fiesta promises to improve in delivering the full ACG experience made popular by Japan’s Comiket and the United States’ Comics Con.

In keeping with tradition, the event continues to host cosplay competitions, a key defining feature of Comic Fiesta. A portmanteau of costume play, it is a performance art which involves participants dressing up in well-crafted costumes and acting in skits that best embody their chosen characters.

The more artistically-inclined can check out the artist booths, where more than 400 local and international participating artists hawk wares ranging from self-published graphic novels, plushies, badges, artist commissions, posters and other assorted merchandise. Those with a more competitive streak can look forward to pitting their skills against their peers whilst vying for lucrative prizes in the art competitions.

Also making a return is Comic Fiesta’s Side Quests, a scavenger hunt for cards earned by performing a predetermined task or trading with another player. Each card represents a different amount of points, and the player with the highest number at the end of the two days will score a lifetime free pass to future events.

One of the biggest highlights of this year’s event is the Malaysian screening of Children Who Chase Lost Voices from Deep Below. Helmed by award-winning director Makoto Shinkai, the animated fantasy film revolves around a young girl’s journey in search of her mysterious rescuer.

Unbeknownst to many, Comic Fiesta is not merely a one-off annual event. Over the years, it has successfully built a community via its Facebook page and forums. Boasting over 14,000 ‘likes’ and 6,000 members respectively, fans use this online platforms to be informed of the latest event updates, participate in active discussions pertaining to every aspect of ACG culture and make new friends.

Backed by various organizations in the local creative industry, Comic Fiesta is able to continuously achieve its mission to promote awareness of the popular subcultures of cosplay, animation, comics and games (traditional and video) amongst Malaysian youths.

Tickets are priced at RM15 per day, and may be purchased at the venue itself. Visitors also have the option to pre-order their tickets at RM25 for both days online.

CF 101: What in the world is CF?!

CF is Comic Fiesta.

Comic Fiesta IS without a doubt Malaysia’s longest-running and most epic convention that focuses on animation, comics and games (ACG). We take pride in celebrating all aspects of art and creativity (as well as the ever popular ACG culture), collecting all these elements in one location and unleashing this melting pot of human ingenuity to all members of society, both locally and internationally.

Responsible for ushering in the rapidly-expanding ACG community into Malaysia, Comic Fiesta (CF) is proudly an event by fans for fans. This is the first and the biggest non-profit ACG convention in Malaysia, organized by a group of passionate individuals brought together by one common goal, and powered by a massive community of professionals, amateurs and enthusiasts of all age groups.

Since its humble beginnings as a small exhibition at the Selangor Chinese Assembly Hall in 2002, CF has grown exponentially in both size and scope to become the premier ACG event in Malaysia. 2011 marks the tenth anniversary of CF, set to delight close to 20,000 visitors on the 17th and 18th of December 2011, at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre!

At every iteration of CF, we will showcase:

Creative Art Market

We play host to the largest amateur creative art market in Malaysia, consisting of (at last count) over 100 booths showcasing the best talents Malaysia has to offer in the field of visual arts and illustration. Find an incredible variety of self-published comics, artbooks, posters and other merchandises, many of which make their debut at our event and cannot be found anywhere else!

Cosplay

In a nutshell, cosplay (a portmanteau of costume play) is a fascinating subculture where passionate fans dress up and act as their favourite character from an animated series, film, game, or literary work. Over a thousand passionate cosplayers have graciously lent Comic Fiesta their support throughout the years, making our event home to one of the biggest cosplay community in Malaysia. Step into CF and find it populated with characters from your favourite series, from Naruto and One Piece to Star Wars and Batman, and everything in between!

Besides the obvious showcase of fan loyalty, many of these cosplayers showcase a mind-boggling mastery of fashion and carpentry, as these costumes have complex, multi-layered designs. To look at cosplay as just a hobby is to do a great disservice to the skills in display here!

Games

From stage games and computer games to our very own CF Side Quest (that debuted in CF 2010 to much acclaim), we have activities to keep you occupied and be delighted the entire day. Test your abilities and skills on a wide variety of interests (both electronic and on pen and paper), and have great fun at the same time!

Commercial Booths

Gathering the best animation, comics and hames companies Malaysia has to offer, Comic Fiesta showcases both home-grown and international commercial products and works, sure to interest and inspire all ACG fans, as well as general attendees.

Our past sponsors and partners include Limkokwing University of Creative Technology, Animax, and Imaginary Friends Studios, so you can be sure we provide the perfect avenue for companies and individuals to bring their A-game to the mix, pun clearly intended!
