ON THE BEAT AND PATH was created by Canadian Steve Northcott out of a desire to travel the world, play music, learn about diverse musical cultures and to make people smile.

As a stand-up comedian, Steve has performed in Canada, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur/Malaysia, Beijing and Hanoi. Steve has been featured in Time Out and Esquire magazine for his comedic efforts.

Steve has enjoyed success as lead singer and guitarist for the Kuala Lumpur rock band, the BENCHMARX. They recently released their second full length studio album and are set to embark on a small scale Southeast Asian tour in early 2010. They more recently earned “Best Live Rock Act” for 2009 at the Voize Independent Music Awards held in January 2010.

Steve Northcott has seen his travel articles published in magazines in both Kuala Lumpur and Singapore and was co-author of Travel/Resident Guide, EXPLORER KL.

Currently based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, Steve has spent the past seven years living abroad and traveling with his trusty guitars to over 25 countries.

Gary Blanton has produced several documentaries, most notably NME Best Documentary (2009) Raq’in the Roots with Malesh-Roma, about the distinctive blends of Balkan music and dance in eastern Macedonia. He has produced music videos, including Barackin’ in the Free World (2008), the voice of his VIMA award-winning band (2010), The BENCHMARX, in support for Obama’s candidacy for president.

Gary also produced the online comedy series, Schwaaab (2005-2006), an often-satirical look at society through the silly antics and disposition of a chin puppet. He designed and currently manages the websites of his company (boredofdirectives.com), his band (thebenchmarx.com), and his wife (paolablanton.com).

In 1995, Gary completed the full-length screenplay Conscious Decisions, a science-fiction murder thriller about a connection between two strangers through their dreams. As head of the mathematics department at Graded School in São Paulo, Brazil (2000-2003), he wrote several educational articles about curriculum development strategies and using logic games to measure deductive and inductive reasoning skills.

Currently, Gary is co-producing the travel documentary series On the Beat and Path with creative partner Steve Northcott. Together, they are also writing a travel memoir and a series of children’s books.
