Judge sends man on date with wife
A US judge has ordered a man accused of scuffling with his wife to take her out for a date.
Jospeh Bray, 47, was told to buy wife Sonja, 39, flowers and then take her out bowling and for a romantic meal, reports the Sun Sentinel.
Judge John Hurley also ordered the couple, of Plantation, Florida, to visit a marriage guidance counsellor.
Bray was charged with domestic violence after he and his wife got embroiled in a spat after he failed to wish her a happy birthday.
Mrs Bray claimed that her husband shoved her against a sofa and grabbed her neck.
But the judge handed down his ruling after deeming the offence “very, very minor”.
However, he said Bray would face jail if he did not follow his sentence to the letter.
“He’s going to stop by somewhere and he’s going to get some flowers,” said Judge Hurley.
“And then he’s going to go home, pick up his wife, get dressed, take her to Red Lobster. And then after they have Red Lobster, they’re going to go bowling.” / orange.co.uk

Testicle pie is Valentine’s treat
A chef has created an aphrodisiac Valentine’s Day culinary treat made from bull testicles.
Charlie Bigham is promoting his cock and bull pie as an alternative to traditional romantic food such as asparagus and oysters.
The cooking instructions for the pie encourage people to “turn off the phone, light those candles, slip into something more comfortable”.
Bull testicles are said to be full of ’sexually stimulating ingredients’ and have a long history of being used in Chinese traditional medicine for that purpose.
The pie, which also contains ginseng and Mama Juana liquor, is being sold by Ocado.com.

Brothel opens its doors to homeless
Homeless people are queueing up at an Austrian brothel after the owner offered them free rooms during the current cold spell.
Peter Laskaris, owner of the Red Rooms Laufhaus in Vienna, has opened his door to the homeless as temperatures of minus 20 hit the city.
He is offering 10 people a night a bed in his brothel for free, including a hot shower and a hot meal.
But he added: “Other services are not included.”
Mr Laskaris said the offer had been so popular that he was now in talks with other brothels in Vienna to open their doors to the homeless.
He added: “We are not really doing much business in the current cold weather anyway and it is the school holidays – a lot of people are off away with their families.
“Lots of our rooms are empty and it seemed a shame not to use them for a good cause. In these cold temperatures nobody should be left out on the streets.”
He said that every room had a bed and a private shower and each guest would get clean bedding each day and fresh towels.
He said: “I have told staff to make sure that the ten rooms are reserved for homeless people. I don’t want anyone out in the cold.”
He said: “The homeless shelters are completely full. People need a warm place to stay. Giving away 10 rooms means that we only have five rooms remaining in our brothel and these are running as normal. None of my girls are complaining – they will have a lot of sympathy for the homeless.
“We have security staff here anyway but it’s been no problem – everyone has taken up the offer has been very grateful to have a warm roof over their heads.”

Mermaids scare off reservoir workers
A government minister in Zimbabwe says work has stopped on new reservoirs because workers have been scared off – by mermaids.
Water resources minister Samuel Sipepa Nkomo told a parliamentary committee that terrified workers were refusing to return to the sites, near the towns of Gokwe and Mutare.
Minister Nkomo said the only way to solve the problem was to brew traditional beer and carry out rites to appease the spirits.
“All the officers I have sent have vowed not to go back there,” he was reported as saying in Zimbabwe’s state-approved Herald newspaper.
The senior politician said that mermaids were also present in other reservoirs.
The long overdue reservoirs are considered essential if Zimbabwe is provide adequate water to its population and to boost agricultural production.
The belief in mermaids and other mythical creatures is widespread in the country, where many people combine a Christian faith with traditional beliefs.

Ballerina rolls naked in snow to cool off
A Russian ballet star amazed fans when she stripped off after a show and rolled naked in the snow outside to cool off.
Anastasia Volochkova, 36, braved temperatures of minus 30C as she peeled off her tutu following her performance in The Nutcracker in Kemerovo, Russia.
The ballerina – once sacked by the world famous Bolshoi Ballet for being too heavy for male dancers to lift – posted pictures of herself with a towel protecting her modesty.
“After the show I just felt like cooling off and dived into the fluffy snowy banks,” she wrote on her blog.
Volochkova is a controversial figure in Russia, where she is known as the Paris Hilton of Moscow, as well known for her self-publicity as for her dancing.

Scientists check out egg-laying rooster
Chinese scientists are investigating a bizarre case in which a cockerel apparently started laying eggs after all the hens were eaten.
The birds owner Huang Li, 47, kept the rooster together with seven hens on his small farm at Chumiao village, Mengcheng city, in central China’s Anhui province.
He said that his family had been gradually eating the chickens over winter until only the rooster was left – and he was amazed when he went into the cage the next day to discover an egg.
He said: “I thought it was a joke and that one of my neighbours had put the egg in there for fun. But the next day there was another egg and so on the third day I waited – and was amazed when I saw that the rooster laid an egg.”
He said word quickly spread to the local TV station which did a story on the egg laying rooster and after that scientists from the local agricultural ministry office turned up and borrowed the rooster to carry out tests.
He said: “They want to find out if it was a hen all the time that simply looked like a rooster or whether it actually changed to become a hen as a result of the fact that all the females had vanished.
“All I can say is that it did a good job waking us up every morning like every other rooster and it certainly treated the hens as if it was a rooster.” / orange.co.uk
